In the beginning...

You know the old adage about birds of a feather? Well never is that more true than with artists in design school. There are 2 factions in the design world, designers who believe in communication, and designers who believe in art and it seems that the designers who believe in art are getting harder and harder to find. So when Kelly and I met, we were thrilled (and relieved) to have found each other. When the other students were cutting and pasting with keyboard shortcuts, we were cutting and pasting with scissors and paste.

Over the three years that we were in school together, we created a pattern of helping each other. Kelly would help me strengthen my concepts and in return I would help her untangle hers. In the 2 years since we graduated the only thing that has changed about this friendship is distance. We can no longer run out for coffee and to bounce ideas back and forth. Now, most of our sessions happen over email and aim.

While the distance has dampened our ability to distract each other (for which I'm sure that our employers are glad) it saddens us that we aren't able to see the spark of inspiration and joy when one comes across a great idea. Yet we know how important and helpful we are for each other and we have come to realize what an unusual and strong friendship we have. We started tangle so that we may continue to be inspired by each other ideas, process and to continually play with scissors and paste.

Enjoy!
